Composer: Albert Gerion Stein

Albert Gereon Stein (1809-1881) was a priest and church musician from Cologne who served as priest at St. Johann's church and staught vocal music at the seminary. He was best known for his writing on church music, particularly the Katholische Kirchenmusik nach ihrer Bestimmung und ihrer dermaligen Beschaffenheit dargestellt (Cologne, 1864), which was seminal in the reform of Catholic church music in Germany. As a composer and editor he was remembered for his Kölnisches Gesangbuch which went into more than two dozen editions by the time of his death.
