1 There’s a prayer I am praying today,
And it daily grows dearer to me,
As I look to my Savior and pray—
That I always more like Him may be.

Chorus:
More like the Master in thought and deed,
More like the Master, for this I plead;
Close by His side as He walks with me,
More like the Master I would be.

2 There’s a marvelous dream that I dream
Of a wonderful Savior divine;
And I waken to pray that my dream
May be real, and His likeness be mine. [Chorus]

3 There’s a song I am singing today,
‘Tis a song that is breathing my prayer,
As my Savior is leading my way—

Author: William C. Poole

William C. Poole was born and raised on a farm in Maryland. His parents belonged to the Methodist church. He graduated from Washington College and became a Methodist minister in Wilmington, Delaware area. He was pastor of McCabe Memorial, Richardson Park and other churches. In 1913 he was superintendent of the Anti-Saloon League of Delaware. He wrote about five hundred hymns. The writing was done as recreation and a diversion from his pastoral work. His goal in writing as well as in being a minister was to help people.
