1 O thou sacred Book—may thy light divine
With its healing balm ’round the wide world shine!
May thy words of truth and thy tender grace
Be our comfort in every place.

Refrain:
Word of God! Word of life!
As a rock thy truth shall stand;
Thro’ the storm and calm
Thou wilt keep us true,
And will lead us to God’s right hand.

2 ’Tis the herald of our salvation dear,
For it bringeth God’s lovingkindness near;
In His grace we trust, in His love we live,
And our wand’rings He doth forgive. [Refrain]

3 May we ever all thy commandments keep,
Filling all our hearts like a fountain deep,
Flowing forth into everlasting peace,
Where the woes of the world shall cease. [Refrain]

Adaline H. Beery was born on December 20, 1859 in Hanover, Pennsylvania. Adaline’s family moved to Iowa when she was 10 years old. She attended Mount Morris College Academy, Mount Morris, Illinois and for while taught in Iowa public schools. Adaline wrote hundreds of poems, many of which appeared in Brethren periodicals and in the 1897 Poems of a Decade. She died on February 24, 1929, Kane, Illinois. NN, Hymnary editor.
