1 Oh, be not dismayed
When tested by fate.
It was ever so:
That pain follows pleasure
And joy follows woe.
2 Trust calmly in God;
His might brings to naught
The powers of night.
He comforts the spirit
And leads to the light.
3 The oceans may roar
As never before.
Jehovah is here,
Thy Rock and thy Savior,
So be without fear.
4 Observe now and see
What Christ did for thee
His steps lead the way.
So stay with the Shepherd
And nevermore stray.
5 Through suff'ring alone
Our Lord did atone.
Why should it then be
That I his disciple
Joy only should see.
6 The cross must be braved
If thou wouldst be saved.
The crown can be won
By those who endureth
The heat of the sun.
7 In Mis'ry and pain
Just think of the gain:
Thy woes are but short
Compared to the glory
Bestowed by the Lord.
8 My spirits arise
And strive for the prize
When thou shalt be free.
The end of the battle
Already we see.
9 Oh. Lord, let it be,
Let me give to Thee
My body and soul.
Dwell in me for Thou art
My ultimate goal.
