1 Now that the night has passed away
And its dark shadows wane,
All who were weary yesterday
Have been revived again.
2 God Israel, Thou hast held watch
Throughout the night o'er me
And kept from evil deeds and thoughts
Both soul and body free.
3 Oh, Lord, I pray protect Thou me
Throughout the busy day
And grant to me most graciously
Thy blessing on my way.
4 Turn me away from sin and harm
Shield both my home and me.
Lead me with Thy protecting arm
And keep me close to Thee.
5 Lord, with Thy aid, again I'll start
The task I had begun.
Bless me and help me do my part
Then it will be well done.
6 All worries flee, God is with me,
He gives me daily bread.
Who prays and labors faithfully
Can banish fear and dread.
7 And should today be my last day
I will not fear or grieve,
For I would never wish to stay
If God bids me to leave.
8 I am Thy very own, my Lord,
Do not depart from me.
Then I will praise Thee and Thy word,
I trust, Oh God, in Thee.
