Comigo Fica

Representative Text

1 Comigo fica! Trevas em redor
Avançam, com tristeza e solidão.
Dos desvalidos grande Amparador,
Comigo fica, quando os outros vão.

2 A vida é curto dia que se esvai;
Prazer e glória breve têm seu fim.
Tudo é ruína, tudo passa e cai...
Tu que não mudas, fica junto a mim.

3 Preciso de ficar ao pé de Ti,
Em cada instante de penumbra ou luz;
Nas aflições, na vida que sorri,
Comigo fica sempre, ó meu Jesus.

4 Os inimigos não me assustarão
Se perto sinto a bênção que invoquei.
A morte já não tem seu aguilhão!
Comigo fica, ó Deus, e vencerei!

5 Nas trevas resplandece, ó Luz de amor!
Dos céus o rumo vem me revelar.
Em vida ou morte seja, ó Salvador,
Meu alvo, e Teu prazer, contigo estar!

EVENTIDE (Monk)

According to some sources, William H. Monk (PHH 332) wrote EVENTIDE for Lyte's text in ten minutes. As the story goes, Monk was attending a hymnal committee meeting for the 1861 edition of Hymns Ancient and Modern of which he was music editor.
