William Clarence Nelson (1906-1981) was the editor of The Hymnal of the United Church of Christ, 1974 and the author of three of its texts . He was born in Chicago March 12, 1906. After graduation from Mission House Theological Seminary in 1935 he was ordained by the Reformed Church denomination in Glenmont, Ohio. He was Pastor of St. John's E&R Church Glenmont, OH 1935-37; Immanuel E&R Church of Indianapolis, IN 1937-44; and Trinity UCC of Akron, OH 1944-68. He died in Canal Fulton, OH October 16, 1981.
