1 The rising God forsakes the tomb,
The stone roll'd back, at distance laid,
The sealed doors wide open thrown,
The resurrection is display'd.
2 The watch, affrighted, quit their post,
Amazement seizes all they meet;
Angels, a bright resplendent host,
The weeping friends and mourners greet.
3 Break off your tears, ye saints, and tell
How high our great deliv'rer reigns;
Sing how He spoil'd the hosts of hell,
And let the tyrant death in chains.
3 Say – live for ever, glorious King,
Born to redeem, and strong to save;
Then ask – "O death, where is thy sting?
"And where thy victory, O grave?"
