38. They Bid Us Prepare

Text Information
First Line: The withering grass and the fading flower
Title: They Bid Us Prepare
Author: Mrs. W. J. Kennedy
Publication Date: 1932
Notes: "This poem was one of the last of this gifted Canadian writer. It seems a premonition of her own death, though untimely it was. She fell a prey to pneumonia. Early the same year the poem was published in "SONGLAND AND HOME" Music Journal, with a prize offer by the editor for the best setting of it. Many meritorious settings were sent in, but in the editor's opinion, Prof. Wade Hampton Roach, one of the first graduates of the Western Normal and College of Music, furnished the best setting. Here it is, we bespeak for it a careful rendering and predict for it great usefulness."
Tune Information
