| Tune: | [Gathered in a peaceful dwelling] |
| Composer: | Edward Roberts |
1 Gathered in a peaceful dwelling,
Sitting at a mother's feet,
Lessons from the Holy Bible,
Oh, how pleasant to repeat;
Or, a hymn that tells of Jesus,
How He died and lives again,
We can sing it to our parents;
They will love the joyful strain.
2 If they have not found the Saviour,
We may point them to the way,
By a single word of kindness,
We have heard our teachers say;
Hearts are never half so happy,
Homes are never half so bright,
Till the parents, with the children,
Morn and eve in prayer unite.
3 Christian homes, however lowly,
Wear a smile that never dies;
'Tis a beam of light reflected,
From a land beyond the skies;
May our Sunday School instruction
Make us what we ought to be,
Kind and gentle to our parents,--
True and faithful, Lord, to Thee.
