1 According to thy promis'd Grace,
Thy Favor, Lord, extend!
Make good to me the Word, on which
Thy Servant's Hopes depend:

2 That only Comfort in Distress
Did all my Griefs controul:
Thy Word in Sorrow's dismal Day,
Reviv'd my fainting Soul.

3 I trusted, that my future Life
Should with thy Love be crown'd,
Or my desponding Soul had sunk,
In Floods of Sorrow drown'd.

4 God's Time with patient Faith expect,
And He'll inspire thy Breast
With inward Strength:—Do Thou thy Part,
And leave to Him the Rest.
