When Christians gather in worship, they are quick to testify of their love for the Lord who loved them. First, Our World Belongs to God, paragraph 36 claims that “Our new life in Christ is celebrated and nourished in the fellowship of congregations, where we praise Gods name...”
And we know that we are safe in Christ’s love: “Beneath the shadow of your wing, I live and feel secure” (stanza 3). Heidelberg Catechism, Lord’s Day 22, Question and Answer 58 claims that “after this life I will have perfect blessedness such as no eye has seen, no ear has heard, no human heart has ever imagined: a blessedness in which to praise God forever.”

The Iona Community is an ecumenical Christian group of men and women based on the small island of Iona off the coast of Scotland. The community began in 1938 when he Rev. George MacLeod of the Church of Scotland began a ministry among the unemployed poor who had been neglected by the church. He took a handful of men to the island to rebuild the ruins of a thousand-year-old abbey church. That rebuilding became a metaphor for the rebuilding of the common life, a return to the belief that daily activity is the stuff of godly service—work, and worship. The Community has since grown to include a group of members, associates, and friends all over the United Kingdom and many other contries. In addition to many conferences that attract people to Iona from around the world, the Community is known for its publishing of new songs and prayers for worship, both developed in community and gathered from around the world. John Bell is probably the community’s most well-known member, having composed and arranged much of the community’s music.
Composer Information
Mary Kay Beall (b. Akron, Ohio, 1943) has been a writer/editor with Hope Publishing Company since 1984. She holds a B.M. degree from Ohio Wesleyan University, an M.A. from Ohio State University, and a Masters in Theological Studies from Trinity Seminary in Columbus, OH. She and her husband, John Carter, are a well-known creative team and currently make their home in Columbus, Ohio. Mary Kay has been an editor for the Hope Publishing Company since 1991 and she conducts clinics and reading sessions throughout the United States and Canada. She is ordained in the American Baptist Church and is currently ministering to church musicians and choirs in the United States and Canada in the area of Spiritual Formation and Renewal. Hope Publishing Company has recently released her devotional collection for music ministry entitled Singing in the Spirit, (Code No. 8007). She also has a large number of original two part choral compositions available from the company.
