23. CHRIST desirable

1 If I'm a saint I long to rest,
Dear Jesus on thy holy breast;
Yes, lay enfolded in thy arms,
To view thy beauty and thy charms.

2 A holy Jesus spotless Lamb,
A perfect God and perfect Man,
Methinks that beauty here doth shine,
With Majesty that's all divine.

3 O form my wretched heart anew,
And give me a transforming view,
Of thy sweet nature with design,
That I receive ti to be mine.

4 To have a temper Lord like thee,
Exceeds the wealth of earth and sea;
Lord with thy riches make me blest,
And from my cares my soul will rest.

5 I'll then begin the heavenly song,
And sing it as I march along;
No enemies are in the road,
When I've a temper like my God.
