1 Free as a bird that escapes from the nest,
Leaving the snare that the fowler has set;
Sing hallelujah! he cancels our debt,—
All the demands of the law have been met.

Free from the bondage and service of sin,
Free from the labor, the strife, and the din;
Free from the fetters that bound us so long,
We will rejoice in the Lord great and strong.

2 Free from the cloud that enveloped the law,
Bathed in the light that the prophets foresaw,
He our Redeemer to him all will draw;
Come and behold him with rapture and awe. [Refrain]

3 Glory to God! for our sentence is stayed,
All is fulfilled, and the sacrifice made;
Precious and priceless, unmeasured, unweighed,
