| Text: | The Angel's Message |
| Author: | Clara Ann Thompson |
1. The people of God
Had long looked for his Son;
The prophets had said,
“He most surely will come.
Jehovah has promised
His own Son to give,
To suffer and die
That his people may live.”
The angels were first
The glad tidings to bring:
“All glory on high,
He has sent you a King.”
2. The wondering shepherds
Cast out all their fears,
When th’ angel’s glad tidings
Rang sweet in their ears,
And leaving their flocks,
Into Bethlehem went,
And beheld the great Gift
Their high Father had sent.
In Bethlehem stable
The little one lay;
His cradle, the manger;
His pillow, the hay.
3. Ah, no! that sweet story
Can never grow old,
Though long years have passed
Since the day it was told,
Since first the glad angels
Sang its sweet refrain;
And now we repeat it
Again and again.
And down through the ages
That chorus shall ring,
Till all tongues and nations
Crown Jesus as King.
