401. When Tempests of Sorrow Arise

1 When tempests of sorrow arise,
And the storm-cloud still heavily rolls,
A rainbow bends over the skies—
“In you patience possess ye your souls!”

Refrain:
Then with faith and with hope,
Let us patiently wait, let us patiently wait for the Lord;
He will guide, He will save,
If we fearlessly trust, if we fearlessly trust in His word!

2 When threatening foes shall assail,
Let us never give way to a fear;
He’ll suffer no ill to prevail
If we earnestly seek Him in prayer. [Refrain]

3 Then calmly we’ll keep on our way,
For the hand of our Saviour controls;
He sends us the message today—
“In your patience possess ye your souls!” [Refrain]
