63. Gentle words

1 The sweet young flow'rs of early spring
Ar beautiful to me;
And bright the many stars that shine
Upon the deep blue sea;
But gentle words and loving hearts,
And hands that clasp our own,
Are better than the blooming flow'rs,
Or stars that ever shone.

2 The sun may warm the grass of life
And all the pretty flow'rs,
And eyes grow bright and watch the light
Of nature's op'ning hours;
But gentle words of tenderness,
And smiles we know are true,
Are warmer than the summer time,
And brighter than the dew.
