16366. Jesus Will Answer For Me

1 When called to the judgment at last,
And life shall be finished and past,
O what would my dread portion be,
Were no one there pleading for me?

Refrain:
But I have an Advocate pleading for me
Who bore all my sins, and who died on the tree,
And when I stand there, I will make but this plea:
That Jesus will answer for me.

2 I know I am worthy to die,
My sins I can never deny,
And at the great judgment I see
One hope for a sinner like me. [Refrain]

3 The angels must cast me away,
In trembling and hopeless dismay;
But Jesus who died in my place
Will win for me pardoning grace. [Refrain]
